Chinese New Year Feng Shui

Chinese New Year Feng Shui

by Stephanie Dempsey

February 7, 2008 marks the Chinese New Year. According to Nine Star Ki, an ancient system of Astrology used by Feng Shui practitioners, this day begins a 1 Water year. Accordingly, you should make some adjustments to your home as a means to capitalize on this quiet, contemplative energy. By putting the transformative power of Water on your side, 2008 could be one of your most fulfilling years yet!

Dream Big
A Water year is time for patience, reflection and planning. Therefore, it's a good idea to make a list of ten things you want to come to fruition in 2009, and spend the next twelve months slowly putting plans into place. For instance, if you want to launch a new career, get the necessary job training, create a work space in your home and start ridding your life of people and activities that are hindering you from your goal. Placing a water fountain near the front entrance of your home will encourage you to formulate good plans.

Pamper Yourself
Water energy cultivates independence and healthy self-esteem. By carving out more time for yourself throughout 2008, you'll thrive. Create a quiet sitting area where you can sit and dream. Screen off a comfortable corner of your home from public view. Put a padded armchair, wide footstool and small table in this quiet retreat. Spend at least 20 minutes each day in your private spot. Use it to read, pray, dream or catnap. By setting aside some sacred time for yourself each day, you'll reach new heights in the coming year.

Stay Hydrated
Your body may need more water throughout 2008. Get into the habit of drinking eight glasses of water each day, and take care that the liquid isn't too cold or hot. When it comes to beverages, room temperature is best. Herbal tea can bring tremendous health benefits, too. Of course, you'll want to stay away from drinks that are loaded with caffeine and sugar. Keeping your body well-hydrated will prompt others to marvel at your dewy complexion and sparkling eyes.

Go With the Flow
Water years are characterized by surprising changes and sudden opportunities. The more adaptable you are, the easier it will be to take advantage of the good fortune that is coming your way. If you are resistant to change, integrate generous splashes of blue into your décor. It's much easier to take a leap into the unknown when you're surrounded by this dreamy color.

Be Selective of the Company You Keep
Misunderstandings can abound during water years. Therefore, it's important to surround yourself with people who know the "real" you. Spend the next year tightening your social circle. If you have a hard time saying "no" to people, place a round mirror in the center portion of the left side of your home. Weed out the in-box to your email account and erase extraneous phone messages. Social discernment will reap great rewards in 2008.
